We are excited to welcome Gary Drostle back to CMS for this exclusive opportunity to learn about what goes into creating large-scale mosaic projects. In this six-day workshop, participants have the opportunity to learn the considerations, organizational needs and logistics that go into producing large scale and public works. This workshop is geared for artists that want to move into larger public or community based mosaics. Students will learn the Paper-face indirect technique which enables the creation of larger works off-site. This technique is ideal for working with community groups, and creating floor, wall, and ceiling mosaics.

This workshop covers all aspects of designing, making and installing large scale mosaic works. Design considerations are addressed in the workshop and include discussion about cartoon creation, material selection, and planning andamento. This course includes discussions and presentations regarding the logistical considerations of large-scale works, such as sectioning the mosaic, organization and project management, site set up, equipment, health and safety, installation, and much more!

As much of the course as possible will be hands-on practical work with each student creating their own mosaic panel as well as working on a collaborative large scale work. This workshop is highly recommended to anyone considering creating or proposing large scale sustainable mosaic artworks.

All materials are included. No prerequisite.

When registering for classes at CMS, please be aware of ourrefund and cancellation policy.

Gary Drostle has been creating large scale mosaics using the paper faced reverse technique for over thirty years, undertaking major commissions across the UK and in the USA, Canada and South America.
