Colonials Sweep the Titans - Robert Morris University Athletics (2024)

DETROIT, Mich. – RMU's offense put together four home runs and 12 runs to beat Detroit Mercy by a score of 8-2 and 4-1. The Colonials now own a record of 16-20, 11-9 #HLSB. The Titans are now 3-35 overall and 2-15 in conference play.

GAME 1

• RMU immediately got to work, scoring two runs in the first inning.
• Anna Resnik reached on a fielding error which gave Kaylyn Hopf a run to start the game.
• Charlotte Grover followed up with a sacrifice fly all the way to the warning track, easily allowing Resnik to score.
• Entering the third, the Colonials fire power was on full display as Catalina Saxen cranked a solo home run to deep center field.
• Graduate first baseman Avery Winchell then hit a solo shot, making it a 4-0 lead.
• Next inning, Kaylyn Hopf earned a 2-RBI single that brought in Alaina Koutsogiani and Meadow Sacadura to extend the lead.
• In the Titans next at bat, they managed to score two runs against the Colonials.
• Continuing into the fifth inning, RMU blasted out their third home run of the game as Alaina Koutsogiani produced a 2-run shot and her third home run of the season.
• The Colonials held on to their lead and won the first game of the series, 8-2.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
In game one of the series, RMU outhit the home side, 12-5. Five separate players posted an RBI, including two by Kaylyn Hopf and Alaina Koutsogiani. Catalina Saxen and Koutsogiani both registered a team-high three hits. Koutsogiani along with Meadow Sacadura each scored two runs in the contest. In the circle, Madison DeVault pitched a complete game, throwing 99 total pitches and paced for 10 strikeouts. DeVault's 10 strikeouts are a career-high for the junior out of Dover, Ohio. She's now surpassed 150 strikeouts in her career.

GAME 2

• To start off the second and final game of the series, Detroit Mercy scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning.
• RMU quickly responded in the top of the second, taking back a 2-1 lead.
• Avery Winchell smacked her second home run of the day and sixth of the season to tie the game.
• Later in the rally, catcher Meadow Sacadura doubled down the left field line, bringing in Courtney Poulich to jump the Colonials up, 2-1.
• Adding some insurance, RMU scored two more runs in the fifth inning.
• Charlotte Grover produced an RBI-double that Catalina Saxen scored off of.
• Then, Avery Winchell registered a sacrifice-fly to deep center field, bringing home Grover to take a 4-1 lead.
• RMU's pitching and defense stayed on point, including a diving catch late in the game by Julia Ehrman. The Colonials held onto their comfortable lead and won, 4-1.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Colonials outhit the Titans again in game two, 10-5. Catalina Saxen registered a team-high three hits for the second straight game and Avery Winchell produced another 2-RBI game. Freshman Kaitlyn Molitoris started the game in the circle. She went four innings and didn't allow an earned run. From McKees Rocks, Pa., she produced a career-high eight strikeouts against the Titans. Junior Jaimee Hardy then went in for the final three innings. She paced for one strikeout and picked up her first save of the season.
