A father has gone viral after sharing a cheap and easy recipe that promises to fill a week's worth of lunchboxes with tasty treats.

Adam Liaw, 40, a Malaysian father-of-two who lives in Adelaide and won Masterchef Australia in 2010, took to Twitter on Wednesday and posted a step-by-step guide to creating the $7 (£3.79) snacks.

Naming the chocolate covered bread sticks 'Fat Pocky', Adam explained that it takes just five to 10 minutes to create 25 portions, and the treats are free of dairy, nuts and eggs.

Taking to Twitter, he said: 'I am going to write a recipe for something that you can make 25 portions in five minutes that can keep unrefrigerated for 8 hours and contains no dairy, nuts or eggs.

'I don't know what it is yet but I will make it work for the good of us all.

'It will also fit in a standard Tupperware, cost less than $10 (£5.42) in ingredients, weigh less than 1 kg for transport, and be able to survive a bus ride in a school backpack without destroying its integrity. I got you on this parents.'

Revealing his name for the treat and the ingredients, he added: 'Okay, this is what I came up with this afternoon - Fat Pocky.

'You're going to need: 25 plain breadsticks - $2.50 (£1.35) 375g dark chocolate - $2.50(£1.35) a pack of sugar strands or nonpareil - $2 (£1.08) TOTAL: $7.00(£3.79).'

Explaining the method, he said: 'Just microwave the chocolate for one minute, then blasts of 30 seconds until it's melted. Probably three to four minutes all up.

'Put the chocolate into a glass and the just dunk the things in there.

'Shake off as much chocolate as you can. You'll need to top up the glass with a teaspoon or so of chocolate every 2-3 sticks. Then lay them on a tray of baking paper.'

Continuing with the decoration part of the recipe, he said: 'Then you're just scattering them with some sprinkles.'

He joked: 'Here are some covered with gold in case your kids go to a private school.'

His thread quickly went viral with over 2,500 likes, while parents praised the simple concoction and some joked that they would end up eating it themselves.

Vowing to try the recipe, one grandmother wrote: 'I have two daughters expecting their third child, and four grandchildren with birthdays in the next four months. I'll be going through a lot of breadsticks! Or pretzel sticks.'

Another added: 'Love from India. Tried it. Of course had to refrigerate till kids came home, but it was super. Can't send to school though due to our lovely warm climate. Waiting for more.'

Adam won Masterchef Australia in 2010 with 5.74 million people tuning in, making it the most-watched non-sporting event in Australian TV history at the time.

The Malaysian-born father-of-two now has his own SBS show, Destination Flavour, which is in its sixth season.
