Limelight
Limelight is the first book in the Penny Green series. The book features Penny Green, a fearless Fleet Street reporter. Penny just lost her job with the newspapers after refusing to compromise her values on her quest for justice. Despite the loss, she’s remained busy trying to find stories the public can identify with. Penny is going about her business when Detective Blakely reaches out to her. The detective comes bearing bad news- her friend Lizzie Dixie is dead- murdered. This comes as a shock because, as far as Penny is concerned, Lizzie drowned about five years ago. How is it possible for one person to die twice?

Blakely needs Penny’s help as he works to investigate Lizzie’s life and mysterious death. Penny and Lizzy were friends for many years, and her drowning comes as a shock to her. They were both very tight at some point, and Lizzie shared a lot about her career and personal life with Penny. Lizzie admitted to making a lot of money in her acting career. However, as Lizzie revealed, the profession comes with many hard choices. She did many things in her career that she wasn’t proud of. The talented actress had kept the truth from her loved ones, including her husband. Could this be the reason why she faked her own death, or did she want a break from her husband?

Who murdered her, and what was their motivation? Join Blakely and Penny as they investigate the worlds of showmen, theatre, and politicians to solve the mystery behind Lizzy’s disappearance and killing.

Blakely feels that Penny knows something that could help find the killers. The two join hands to go deep into the acting world and get to the bottom of Lizzy’s case. As the duo works together, we get to know the characters a little better. Penny is a smart, independent woman who doesn’t shy away from the truth. While Penny’s demanding job separates her from her family, she is quite close to her sister. It is also clear that many of Penny’s friends envy her for her drive and confidence. Penny and Blakeley turn into fast friends, and it is beautiful to see how their relationship blossoms as they continue to come together. Blakeley has deep feelings for Penny, and their relationship is admirable.

Limelight is an intriguing mystery story perfect for Victorian history fans. Set in London in 1883, this book introduces a strong female protagonist in an era where this wasn’t the norm. The storyline is captivating, and the mystery will keep you guessing to the end. It is refreshing to read about a journalist who not easily manipulate and the efforts she puts in finding the killers of a woman she ones knew.

Tragedy at Piddleton Hotels
Tragedy at Piddleton Hotels is the first book in the Churchill &Pemberley series. The book features Annabel Churchill, a tenacious private detective and her quirky partner Doris Pemberley. After her husband’s death, Annabel decides to buy a detective agency and move to a small village. Here, Annabel meets Doris, secretary to the former detective agency owner. The two women both in their sunset years hit it off immediately and are excited to start working together. Their first case involves the murder of an old lady at the Piddleton Hotel. While most people believe that Mrs. Furzgate’s death was an accident, Annabel and Doris are convinced there is more to it. Can these two prove everyone wrong and find the person responsible for the older woman’s death.
Mrs. Furzgate was the village busybody which earned her a lot of enemies. This only makes it hard for the investigative duo to find her killer. Who hated Mrs. Furzgate enough to want her dead? Could she have uncovered a secret the other party would kill to protect? Annabel and Doris are not new in the detective world, and they have a few skills up their sleeves. The two use unorthodox methods to solve the murder. In the course on the investigations, these two will make a few enemies and come close to making the police detective lose his cool. Fortunately, they can lay a trap and ensure that Mrs. Furzgate is apprehended. The duo will also have a lot of fun along the way.

Follow Annabel and Doris as they work to solve a murder in a sleepy English village. It is exciting to see the two ladies winning while they were previously underestimated. These two are not distracted by those who underestimate them. Instead, the two ladies use this to their advantage. The story comes with many laugh-out moments. Annabel and Doris will get themselves in many awkward situations, and thanks to their quirky sense of humor, these situations turn out to be the best parts of this book. Will this investigation ruffle more feathers than Mrs. Furzgate ever did in her lifetime? What does this mean for their new business and the partnerships Annabel and Doris are keen to make?

Tragedy at Piddleton Hotels is a cozy mystery with interesting characters, an intriguing storyline, and a consistent pace. Set in the 1930s, this book tells the story of two women who are not afraid to go against the norm. Annabel and Doris are sleuth and will do whatever it takes to get the information they are looking for. The village setting gives the story quite an edge, and the author has done a perfect job of bringing the village to life. Curious to know who killed Mrs. Furzgate? Get an answer to this and much more in this captivating story.

I recently came across this author and in a short time consumed all of the Penny Green mysteries and the Augusta Peel mysteries – the former in the late Victorian era and the latter in the early 1920s. The author has a great writing style. I didn’t imagine that I would get so easily addicted to her works.
