Macharva: When I think of the holidays, I think of spending time preparing and enjoying meals with the people I love. In fact, there isn’t a Thanksgiving or Christmas season I can remember that my husband and I haven’t spent with one or both of our moms.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we’ve spent the last few holidays socially distant.To bridge the physical distance, we have been searching for a more meaningful gift idea.When we learned about the recipe tea towels at Spoonflower, we knew we had found our answer!
To create our favorite No-Knead Sprouted Wheat Bread recipe tea towel, I scanned my written recipe into Photoshop to format it (find the full tutorial here) and then uploaded my file to Spoonflower to print onto fabric or sewn tea towels.The tea towels are made from a wonderful blend of cotton and linen, and wash and iron beautifully.The recipe shows up well on the fabric and makes it so simple to follow the recipe since I don’t have to worry about ruining a paper copy.What can I say—cooking with kids is messy business!

After my custom order arrived, all I needed to do was cut and hem the tea towels before sending to our moms.

Take two of the ends of the towel and tie them as if you are tieing your shoes (making bunny ears). Take the other two ends and tie those in the same fashion (they will be on top of the other knot). Add your decorations between the knots and/or tie the ribbon through the top knot.
Transcribe your family's favorite cookie recipe onto a cookie jar, engrave grandma's oxtail soup recipe onto an easel (now you don't have to lean over and squint), or hang up the most oft-used family recipe on a sign so that it's always in sight.
Download a mobile scanning app. With an app like Adobe Scan, all you need to do is take a photo of your recipe and the app will scan it into a PDF right from your phone.

Towels are truly one of the most practical gifts you can give. You can gift a nice set of towels to anyone. And you can find towel sets that reflect someone's personality easily.
Start by folding down a small section at the top for a clean lip and folding the bottom up to the desired height. Iron so the folds stay in place. Wrap the tea towel around the plant and keep in place with twine. So cosy.
More recently, cotton has become the preferred fabric of many tea towels of today. Cotton tea towels are incredibly absorbent and cotton which uses a terry-cloth looped weave creates larger fabric loops within the towels to absorb large quantities of water whilst keeping them strong and durable.
– With 3 yards, you can get 4 tea towels 27″ (~58.5 cm) long OR 3 tea towels 36″ (~91.5 cm) long. – With 2 yards you can get 2 tea towels 28″ (~71 cm) long and 1 tea towel 16″ (~40.5 cm) wide OR 2 tea towels 36″ (~91.5 cm) long. These dimensions are for unwashed fabric.
One way to transfer a design onto fabric for embroidery is to use a transfer pen or pencil. You can trace the design onto the fabric, and then embroider over it. Another method is to use transfer paper and a photocopier to create a reversed copy of the design, which can then be placed on the fabric and traced.
If you have a scanner you can simply scan the recipes into the computer. If you don't have access to a scanner, you can take pictures of your recipes using a digital camera or your smartphone.
If you tend to save recipes from magazines as well as handwritten recipe cards, sort them into a three-ring binder. Use tab dividers and plastic page protectors for both full sheets (for pages from a magazine) and divided sheets (for 3-by-5-inch recipe cards).
